The grid itself is only the frame and fabric that holds the coat in place.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhen to replace\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOnce the fabric tears, thins, or hardens with age, the DE coat cannot hold. The symptom owners notice is powder blowing back into the pool through the returns after recharging, and water that never quite clears. Pull the grid pack and inspect every element; a tear at a seam or along the top edge is easy to miss.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGrids are sold one at a time so a single failure does not mean a full set.
