It sits in the strainer pot ahead of the impeller and catches everything the skimmer let past.

What a good basket buys you

Leaves, twigs and grit that reach the impeller wear it, block it or take out the shaft seal. The basket is the cheap barrier that stops that happening. It only works while its slots are open and its walls are sound, so a basket that has cracked, warped or lost a section is no longer doing the job even though it still fits.

Fitting and care

The basket drops into the pot without tools. Empty it before it packs solid, since a loaded basket starves the pump and shows up as poor flow and a noisy, cavitating impeller. Check the lid o-ring while the lid is off.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0801/9568/2516/files/pentair-r38024-challenger-strainer-basket.jpg?v=1788758298
