The locator is what keeps that pack correctly spaced. Under flow the grids want to move, and if two of them lean together the powder cannot coat the faces where they touch. That contact patch then passes dirty water straight through while the rest of the filter does its job, which shows up as a pool that never quite clears.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFitting\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe locator only comes out when the tank is open and the grid set is lifted, so change it as part of a grid clean rather than on its own.
