A grecian pool under a green safety cover at dusk

Every pool is a different shape. So is every cover.

Freeform, kidney, L shaped, a spa off one end, a rock wall down the side. We cut the cover to the pool you actually own, in four fabrics, with the springs, the anchors and the tool in the box.

About a minute, and you do not need to give us anything to see a price.

Why a custom cover

The only winter cover that holds weight.

Made to the safety cover class of ASTM F1346: the standard puts 485 lb on the cover of a pool more than 8 ft wide and gives it half an hour to shed standing water. A winter cover passes no performance test at all, and the standard says plainly that it is not a barrier.

  • A barrier, not a lidA child or a pet that walks onto it does not go through. The label sewn to the cover states which class it is, and that label is how you tell.
  • Cut to your outline, not to a size chartGrecian and Roman ends, true L and lazy L, kidney and freeform, raised walls, spillover spas, slides and rock features.
  • Fifteen to thirty years of wintersWarranties run from 15 years on the entry mesh to 30 on the commercial, the first three to five at full value, on stainless hardware throughout.

Four fabrics. Three mesh, one solid.

Mesh drains, so nothing stands on it and no pump is involved. Solid stops everything and wants a drain panel or a pump on it all winter. Within mesh, what the money buys is shade, weight and years. Swatches are the real colors each fabric is made in.

Commercial Mesh The heaviest mesh made
Burst strength 890 PSI

The strongest mesh in the range, and the one to pick where snow sits for months. Commercial weave, and the only tier offered in black.

Nine tenths less light through it than the entry mesh, which is what decides whether you open to clear water or to green. The tier we would pick.

Drains, carries the load, light enough to handle alone. The manufacturer says in its own literature that at this shade some pools still grow algae, which is the honest case for the tier above it.

A solid sheet, so nothing gets through: no light, no dirt, no water. It needs a drain panel or a pump running on it all winter, and that is the trade.

Price estimator

What should a cover for my pool cost?

Shape and rough size is all we need. Nothing to fill in, nothing to send.

L shapes, kidneys and freeform pools sit on a tighter anchor grid, so they price above a rectangle of the same area. On a freeform pool give the longest and widest points; the estimate is rougher for those shapes, because the real outline is what decides the fabric.

Brass deck anchors and stainless springs holding a safety cover
How it is made

Built once. Built right.

The fabric is the part you look at. What decides whether a cover is still doing its job in year twelve is the stitching, the springs, and what goes into the deck.

  • Stainless and brassSingle coil stainless springs on low profile D rings, and brass anchors that screw down flush with the deck when the cover comes off for the summer.
  • Seams and edgesInterlocked, double overlapped seams, and a hemmed, reinforced edge where the straps pull. That edge is where a worn out cover gives first.
  • Walls, spas and featuresA raised wall takes a stainless cable and wall anchors. Spas, spillways and rock features get measured and cut around rather than worked around.
  • Anti rub at the copingA strip built in where the cover crosses the coping, so the fabric is not sawing on stone every time the wind moves it.

Two ways to get a cover that fits.

Starting from nothing, or replacing one you already own. The second is easier, and most people do not know it exists.

Ships 2 to 3 weeks after approval

First cover for this pool

  1. We send the measuring guide, illustrated for every shape we cut, raised walls and spas included.
  2. It walks the A to B method point by point: where the two stakes go, how the perimeter is numbered, what the diagonals are for.
  3. You send the figures back. There is a checklist, so you know it is complete before it goes.
  4. A specialist reads every form by hand before anything is cut. Most problems are caught there.

Replacing a cover you own

  1. We ship you a box with a prepaid return label in it. Nothing to buy, no shipping to work out.
  2. Fold the old cover in and drop it at any UPS point, or book a pickup.
  3. The factory cuts the new one using the old as the pattern, so every strap and anchor lands where the last one did.
  4. Nothing to measure means nothing to get wrong. This is the accurate route, not the lazy one.

Why buy the cover here.

  • The same cover, cut the same wayThese come off the same line as the cover a dealer would quote you, in the same four fabrics, with the same manufacturer warranty behind them.
  • Fit it however suits youMost people do it themselves, with the tool in the box and us on the phone. If you would rather hand it to a contractor, nothing about the cover changes.
  • One number, start to finishThe person who prices your cover is the one who checks your measurements, and the one to call if you ever need the warranty.

Custom cover questions, answered.

How much does a custom pool safety cover cost?

Most fall between $1,150 and $3,700, delivered, with free shipping. The low end is a small rectangle in the 4.5 oz entry mesh. The high end is a large pool in 7.9 oz commercial mesh. Four things move you along that range: the area of the pool, which fabric tier you pick, the shape, and whether there is a raised spa, which adds roughly $700 and often more. Shape matters more than people expect. A rectangle is built on a 5 x 5 ft anchor grid, while kidneys, L shapes and freeform pools take a 3 x 3 ft grid, so they carry more straps, more springs and more holes for the same area.

Why does measuring a pool need two measurements to every point?

Because one locates nothing. If a point on your coping is 22 ft from a stake, it could sit anywhere on a 22 ft circle drawn around that stake. Measure the same point from a second stake and you get a second circle, and two circles cross in one place. That crossing is the point, fixed exactly. Repeat it around the whole pool at roughly 3 ft intervals and the factory can redraw your pool at full size from the numbers alone. It is why the measuring form has an A column and a B column rather than one list of distances.

Where do the A and B stakes go?

Chalk them on the deck with A on your left and B on your right as you face the water, spaced roughly two thirds of the pool length apart: about 20 ft on a 30 ft pool. The critical rule is that the line between them, and the imaginary extension of that line both ways, must never cross the water. The pool sits entirely in front of the line. Measuring forms disagree on the exact setback, asking 3 ft or 4 ft from the edge, so work to the constraint rather than a number. Write the A to B distance down and draw the line on your sketch.

Can I send my old safety cover in instead of measuring the pool?

Yes, and for a replacement it is usually the better route. Ask for a cover box. It arrives with a prepaid return label, you pack the old cover and ship it back, and the factory traces it as an exact pattern. The new cover is often finished about 2 weeks after the factory receives the old one. You measure nothing, and the strap positions travel with the pattern, so the cover lands on the anchors already in your deck. The exception is a bungee style cover, which has no strap layout to match, so that pool has to be measured.

Will a new custom cover line up with the anchors already in my deck?

It will, but only if you measure twice. One full set of A to B measurements plots the pool perimeter and a second full set plots every existing anchor, and the factory needs both. For the anchor set the A-B line moves outward, roughly 3 ft beyond the outermost anchors, so that every anchor sits in front of it. Same rules otherwise: A on the left, number clockwise, measure from both stakes, take your check diagonals. Sending the old cover in as a pattern skips all of it, which is why that route exists.

What does the measuring form want besides the pool outline?

Coping type, coping width and whether it is abrasive. Then every permanent object near the water, each located by its own A and B pair: rails, ladders, slide legs, dive stands, rocks, fill spouts, planters, spas with their height and whether the wall finishes flush with the coping, raised walls measured along their run, waterfalls plotted at about 1 ft intervals, and deck levels with their angle. Three distances matter and differ: inside 3 ft it goes on the sketch, inside 18 in a cutout may be needed, inside 2 ft slide legs and fixed ladders become cutouts.

Can a custom safety cover be returned?

No. A cover cut from your pool outline, with your cutouts and your strap positions, fits one pool in the world, so there is nothing to restock and nobody to resell it to. That is our policy on any made to measure product, and we would rather state it than bury it. It is also why a person reads your measuring form by hand before anything is cut, and why the form asks for 3 or 4 random check diagonals, labelled photographs and a sketch showing the A-B line. Those exist to catch an error while fixing it is still free. Unsure of a figure? Flag it.

Still stuck? Send the form above, or call (888) 751-8084.

Rather just talk it through?

Most quotes take under fifteen minutes, and you can be standing at the pool while we do it. If a stock cover fits yours we will say so, because it costs less and arrives sooner.

Other covers we ship.

A custom cover is one of several. If your pool is a standard rectangle, or you want a cover that is not a barrier, one of these is the cheaper answer.
