How the Pool Season line fits together

Sanitize, shock, balance, protect. Sanitizer is the only chemical that runs continuously. Everything else exists because sanitizer alone cannot hold a pool: shock deals with what the chlorine cannot burn off, balancers keep the chlorine effective, and the protect step, algaecide, phosphate control, enzyme and clarifier, makes the pool a hard place for algae to start and clears what is left in suspension.

Two shocks, on purpose. Non-Chlorine Shock is the weekly oxidizer for a pool that gets used: no chlorine added, no stabilizer added, swim again in 15 minutes. Di-Chlor is chlorine shock that dissolves fast and will not bleach a liner, for the week the water needs chlorine as well as oxygen, and it is the shock for vinyl and above-ground pools. For cal hypo, the lowest cost per dose, and how the four kinds compare, read the pool shock guide.

Buying one brand across the whole set is not marketing. Stabilizer, pH drift and calcium hardness interact, and a line formulated together gives you dose charts that assume each other. Mixing brands mid-season is where most water chemistry goes sideways.

Everything on this page ships from stock. Sizes run from a 1 lb bag to a 50 lb bucket, and the price per pound is on every card so the jump to the bigger container is a decision you can actually make.

Questions we get every week

How much shock does my pool need?

One pound per 10,000 gallons is the routine dose for both Pool Season shocks. A 20,000 gallon pool takes two 1 lb bags a week, which is what the 12 pack is for. Green water takes 2 to 3 pounds of Di-Chlor per 10,000 gallons, per the label, repeated until it clears. Non-chlorine shock does not kill algae.

How long after shocking can I swim?

Fifteen minutes after Non-Chlorine Shock has dissolved, per the label. After Di-Chlor, once free chlorine tests back at 1 to 3 ppm, usually the same evening or the next morning with the pump running. Test before you swim.

Chlorine shock or non-chlorine shock?

Non-chlorine shock oxidizes and lets you swim in 15 minutes, which is what you want after a party. Chlorine shock also kills, which is what you want on green water and after a storm. Most pools want the first one weekly and the second one a few times a season.

Why is my chlorine gone by the afternoon?

Almost always stabilizer. Under 30 ppm of cyanuric acid the sun destroys free chlorine in hours. Test it before you buy more chlorine, because the chlorine is not the problem. Over 80 ppm is the opposite problem: the chlorine stops working.
