Getting the size right
Cartridges are ordered by measurement, not by the name on the filter housing. Outside diameter, length and rated square footage are the three numbers to check against the cartridge you are taking out. A cartridge that is close but not exact will let water bypass the media, and unfiltered water going back to the pool defeats the point.
What the rating buys you
Fifty square feet is the pleated surface area available to catch dirt. The larger the area, the more the cartridge holds before pressure climbs and it needs cleaning, so a correctly sized cartridge runs longer between service stops.
Getting the most from it
