This is a generic 48 in. leader hose in light gray, a lower cost replacement for the leader section on Hayward® suction cleaners including the Navigator, Pool Vac, Pool Vac Ultra, AquaBug and Aquadroid families.

The leader hose specifically

A suction cleaner hose is not one piece. The leader is the section attached directly to the cleaner, and it takes more abuse than the rest of the run because it flexes constantly as the cleaner works. It is usually the first section to go stiff, split or lose its shape.

What a tired leader hose does

Once the leader takes a permanent set, the cleaner starts pulling against its own hose instead of tracking freely, which shows up as a machine that favors one end of the pool or stalls in corners. Replacing the leader alone often restores normal behavior without touching the rest of the hose.
