Product details

Hayward AXW542 is the replacement o-ring for W530 and W560 series leaf canisters. It is the genuine Hayward part in rubber.

Why the seal matters

A leaf canister is plumbed into the suction line ahead of the pump, so everything inside it is under vacuum. When the lid o-ring hardens or splits, the canister pulls air rather than water. The symptoms look like a cleaner problem: slow travel, a cleaner that stalls, bubbles at the returns and a pump basket that will not stay full. The seal is usually the cause.

The part that wears first

The lid on a leaf canister comes off every time the basket is emptied, which is more often than any other seal in the system gets disturbed. That handling, plus sun and pool chemistry, is what flattens the ring. Replacing it is the least expensive repair on the canister, and it is worth keeping a spare on the shelf.

Why does my cleaner slow down when the canister is in line?
A leaf canister that no longer seals draws air instead of water, and the cleaner loses suction. A cracked, flattened or missing o-ring is the first thing to check.
What is the o-ring made of?

Does this include the lid or the basket?
No. This is the o-ring alone. The lid, the clamp and the inner basket are separate Hayward parts.
