Product details

The Hayward W530 is the large leaf and debris canister, an in line trap that sits between the cleaner and the filter system and takes the coarse debris out of the water first.

Why it saves you work

Without a canister, every leaf a cleaner picks up ends up in the pump basket or against the filter. In leaf season that means pulling the pump lid several times a week and stripping the filter far more often than the media actually needs. The canister moves all of that to one easy open lid and one large basket.

Flow and visibility

The canister is designed so water bypasses the collected debris rather than being forced through it, which keeps proper flow going to the pump as the basket loads up. The Lexan body is see through, so a glance tells you whether it is time to empty it. The extra large basket or bag holds a real load between cleanings.

Hayward builds these for the pool professional, and the same rugged construction is what makes them worth having on a home pool that drops a lot of leaves.

What does a leaf canister actually do for me?
It sits ahead of the filter and catches leaves and larger debris first, so the pump basket and filter stop taking the whole load and you clean one basket instead of stripping the filter.
Will the pump lose flow once the canister fills with leaves?
The canister is designed so water bypasses collected debris and keeps proper flow to the pump. You still want to empty it regularly, but a partly full basket does not choke the system.
How do I know when to empty it?
The Lexan body is see through, so you can look at the canister on the deck and tell whether the basket is loaded without opening anything.
Which cleaners is this meant for?
It is built to be used with Hayward pool and spa cleaners. This is the large size, part number W530.
