A home pool has no compliance rule to meet, so the choice is about the person and the deck. A lift that a helper runs costs less and weighs less; a rotating lift lets the swimmer get on from the side; an ADA lift works alone from the water and is the right pick when the swimmer uses the pool without company. Measure the drop from the deck to the water and the wall height on an above ground pool or spa, then match the anchor to the deck: concrete, pavers or wood each have one.

The lifts here suit a backyard: Global's Home series, Aqua Creek's Power EZ 2, Nebula and Neptune, the Ranger 2 and Admiral, Global's Legend series, S.R. Smith's PAL2 that stands on the deck without an anchor, and the access chairs for a pool with a ramp. Many of them are the same ADA lifts sold to facilities on the commercial ADA lifts page. An above ground pool or a swim spa needs a lift that clears the wall; those are on above ground and spa lifts. Anchors for every deck are on anchors.
The parent page is pool lifts.
Does a home pool lift have to be ADA compliant?
No. The ADA applies to pools open to the public, not to a private home, so a homeowner can choose any lift that fits the person and the deck. Many buyers still pick an ADA lift because it works alone from the water, which matters when the swimmer uses the pool without anyone else home.
Can my HOA pool get a lift?
A community pool limited to residents and guests is not covered by the ADA, but a resident with a disability can ask the association to allow a lift, paid for by the resident, under the Fair Housing Act, and an association that rents the pool out or opens it to the public is covered like a business.
Does a pool lift need electrical work at a house?
A battery lift needs none at the pool: the 24 V battery charges indoors on a wall charger and goes back on the lift. The anchor is bonded to the pool's bonding grid like any other deck fitting, which is the one job an electrician does. A water powered lift needs a hose or plumbed supply at 35 to 70 psi instead.
What anchor does a home pool lift need?
It depends on the deck. A concrete deck takes a cored or cast in anchor; pavers take a paver anchor with a footing under them; a wood deck takes a wood deck anchor that bolts through the joists. Each lift's page lists its anchors, and a portable lift needs none.
