How it works
The fuel cartridge heats a mat, and the mat releases the repellent into the air around the unit. That creates a scent free 15 foot zone of protection, which is enough to cover a patio table, a deck chair or the shallow end of a pool. There is no spray, no mess, and no DEET. The active ingredient is allethrin, a synthetic version of a repellent that occurs naturally in chrysanthemum flowers.
Making the pack last
Each mat runs up to 4 hours and each cartridge up to 12, so one cartridge sees out three mats. Change the mat when its color has faded rather than waiting for the mosquitoes to tell you. Keep in mind this refill suits the fuel powered units; the rechargeable Thermacell models use a different refill entirely.
