Poolguard PGRM-2 In-Ground Pool Alarm

The Poolguard PGRM-2 is a deck mounted alarm for in-ground pools that sounds when something the size of a one year old child enters the water. It sits at the edge of the pool with its sensor in the water, runs on a 9 volt battery, and pairs with an in-house remote receiver so the alarm is heard indoors as well as poolside. Both horns are 85 dB at 10 ft.

Always on, by design

Once the alarm is installed in the pool it cannot be deactivated; it stays in alarm ready mode. Taking it out of the water also sets it off, which is what makes it tamper resistant. When you want to swim, you remove it and put it into sleep mode. When it goes back in, it wakes up on its own and runs a system test. Newer sensing technology cuts down on false alarms from wind, rain and small objects like sticks or toys, and it can stay in place under a solar blanket.

Power and range

The poolside unit takes a 9 volt battery, not included, that lasts about a year, and it gives an audible low battery warning that is repeated at the in-house receiver. The receiver has a range up to 200 ft. and comes with a 12 volt power supply.

Rating

Poolguard alarms are tested to the ASTM F2208 standard for pool alarms in a 16 by 32 ft. pool and are rated for pools up to 20 by 40 ft., or 800 sq. ft. A pool alarm is one layer of protection and does not replace fencing or supervision.
