The Poolguard PGRM-SB Safety Buoy is a floating alarm for above ground pools, soft sided and portable pools and spas. It sits in the water rather than mounting to a wall, which is what makes it work on pools that have nothing to bolt to.
How it senses
The buoy uses sub-surface detection rather than reading the surface, which is how it separates a person entering the water from wind, rain and small objects blowing across the top. Poolguard has it tested and certified by NSF International to ASTM F2208, the residential pool alarm standard, and it is the only floating alarm the company builds with sub-surface sensing.
Living with it
Alarm functions run off the unit red key. Removing or replacing the buoy with the key is silent, but taking it out of the pool any other way sounds the alarm, so it cannot quietly be defeated. It stays on and cannot be switched off, and it goes into sleep mode when you lift it out to swim. The remote receiver reaches 200 ft, so the alert follows you indoors. It runs on one 9 volt battery, which is not supplied, and it warns audibly when that battery is low.
