Getting the fit right
Square footage on its own does not decide whether a cartridge fits. The outside diameter, the overall length and the shape of the end caps do. Take the old element out, measure it and compare it to the figures above before ordering, particularly if the cartridge in the housing was itself a substitution at some point.
Care and replacement
Rinse the pleats out regularly, working the spray between them rather than across the top. When a rinse stops restoring flow, soak the cartridge overnight in a cartridge cleaner to break down oils and scale. Eventually the fibers pack and the pleats lose their shape, and at that point cleaning no longer helps. A worn cartridge shows up as a filter that runs to high pressure quickly after every clean.
