Why a set of four
The CL340 runs four cartridges around a central manifold, and they share the flow between them. When one is new and three are loaded, the new element takes more than its share and wears early while the tank still runs high on pressure. Changing all four keeps the load even and gives the filter its full clean cycle back.
When to replace
Cleaning buys back most of the flow for a while. The point to replace comes when a proper soak and rinse no longer drops the pressure gauge back near where it read on a clean filter, or when the pleats have gone soft, torn or permanently gray.
