The Jandy R0462500 is the 250 sq. ft. replacement cartridge element for the Jandy Pro Series CS250 cartridge filter. It is the genuine part, and appears under the Zodiac name as well, Zodiac being the parent of the Jandy line.

Why the full area matters

The CS250 is rated at 250 sq. ft. because that is the media area of the element inside it. Running a filter on a cartridge that is packed, torn or collapsed drops the effective area, and the pump has to push through a smaller opening. That shows up as filter pressure that climbs sooner after every clean and never quite comes back to the clean starting pressure.

When to change it

A cartridge is due when a proper clean no longer restores the starting pressure, when the pleats are matted flat, or when the media has torn or pulled away from the end caps. At that point cleaning buys days rather than months.
