Product details

The Jandy TRUGUARDR is the replacement mineral cartridge for the Jandy TruGuard mineral sanitizer. Jandy designs the TruGuard cartridge to sanitize pools from 5,000 to 45,000 gallons, and it lasts six months or one season, whichever is shorter.

How it works

TruGuard uses mineral technology to control bacteria and algae, and it is used together with a chlorine or bromine sanitizer. Jandy says it can reduce the chlorine a pool needs by up to 50 percent in most pools. It pairs with a salt chlorinator such as the TruClear or AquaPure and works with any in-ground pool.

Replacement and start up

Jandy states that a cartridge should not be used for more than six continuous months. Install a new cartridge only when the water is clean and balanced (pH 7.4 to 7.8, calcium hardness 200 to 400 ppm, total alkalinity 80 to 150 ppm). Jandy then calls for an initial superoxidation with chlorine, running the pump for 4 days around the clock or 6 hours a day for 14 days at 1 to 2 ppm free chlorine, before letting chlorine settle to 0.5 ppm.

Before you order

This is the cartridge only and fits an existing TruGuard. Jandy says TruGuard cannot be used with biguanide products or copper based algaecides. In cold climates Jandy has you remove the cartridge at closing, and a used cartridge is discarded in household trash.
