How it works
Each unit is an alloy cylinder packed with a granular mineral blend. The minerals dissolve out and form a stable residual through the pool water, working on algae while leaving a low level of chlorine free to do more of the sanitizing. Every time water passes back through the cylinder during filtration the minerals are rejuvenated, which is what stretches one unit across a season.
Fitting it and using it
Clean or backwash the filter first and clear the skimmer and pump baskets. Drop the unit into the pump basket, or the skimmer if the basket is not an option, with at least three to four hours of run time left in the cycle so the granular material distributes. It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Salt pools
On a salt pool the effect is worth noting separately. Less chlorine production is needed to stay algae free, which means the cell works less, lasts longer, and drives less of the pH climb that has you adding acid.
