Armor Shield from GLI is a floor pad cut for a 10 foot by 16 foot oval above ground pool. It goes down between the vinyl liner and the sand or soil base underneath it.
What it is made of
Rather than traditional foam padding, Armor Shield is a polypropylene geotextile blend. That construction is what lets it stand up to rocks, roots, grass and glass working up through the base, the things that eventually put a cut or a puncture through a vinyl liner from below.
The other two jobs
The pad also slows convective heat loss through the pool floor, and it gives swimmers a more comfortable surface to stand on than liner over bare base. On an above ground pool where the floor is the largest single area of liner, that adds up.
