Product details

The S.R. Smith VLLS-103E-SG is a 3 step Economy ladder for residential pools. It is 304 grade stainless steel with a sealed Silver Gray finish, fitted with plastic hip treads and rubber bumpers that keep the steel off a vinyl liner.

Construction

The frame is 1.90 in. outside diameter tubing with a .049 in. wall. S.R. Smith makes the Economy ladder in 304 stainless or 316L marine grade and with plastic or stainless steel treads; this model pairs the 304 grade steel and Silver Gray finish with plastic treads.

Fitting it to your deck

The ladder sits in deck anchors made for 1.90 in. tube and is locked in by each anchor wedge. S.R. Smith lists Economy ladder anchor spacing as 19 in. on center for Econoline models or 20 in. for Elite models, with a 17 in. setback, so measure the anchors already in your deck before ordering. On a replacement, the old ladder comes out by loosening the wedges and the new one goes into the same anchors.

Adding anchors

For new anchors, S.R. Smith suggests its 4 in. residential stainless steel anchor AS-100B-SS, 4 in. commercial stainless steel anchor AS-104MG, 4 in. bronze anchor AS-100B or plastic universal anchor AS-100P. Each is set flush with the deck, wedge facing away from the pool, and bonded to the deck rebar according to the National Electrical Code or local building codes.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Will it fit my existing deck anchors?
It uses 1.90 in. OD tubing, so it fits anchors made for that tube size. S.R. Smith lists Economy ladder anchors at 19 in. on center for Econoline models and 20 in. for Elite models, with a 17 in. setback, so measure center to center between your anchors before ordering.
Is it safe for a vinyl liner pool?
Rubber bumpers are fitted to the ends of the ladder where it meets the side of the pool, which keeps the steel from rubbing a vinyl liner.
What are the treads made of?
Plastic. S.R. Smith builds the Economy ladder with either plastic or stainless steel treads, and the VLLS-103E-SG has the plastic hip treads.
How is it installed?
Into deck anchors. To replace a ladder, loosen the wedge in each anchor, lift the old ladder out and tighten the new one in. For new anchors in an existing deck, S.R. Smith calls for a core drilled hole at least 4 in. across for a stainless or bronze anchor, or 5 in. for a universal anchor, with the anchor set flush, the wedge facing away from the pool and the anchor bonded to the deck rebar per code.
