Product details

The Anderson 145N is a 1-1/2 inch winterizing plug with a nylon wing nut, used to seal pool lines when the pool is closed for the season.

How it works

The plug drops into the fitting and the wing nut is turned by hand. That draws the plug body together so it expands sideways and grips the inside of the fitting, sealing the line. Nothing but hand pressure is needed, and nothing has to be cut or glued.

Why the nylon nut

Winter plugs sit in wet fittings for months. A metal wing nut can corrode and seize, and then the plug has to be fought out at opening. A nylon wing nut turns freely in spring, which is the reason this version exists. Plugs are reusable, so keep them with the winter cover hardware and replace any whose rubber has hardened or whose nut no longer tightens.

What size line does this plug?
1-1/2 inch. Measure the fitting rather than the pipe outside diameter if you are unsure.
Is the wing nut metal or plastic?
Nylon. That is the point of this version, because nylon does not corrode or lock up over a wet winter.
How does it seal?
Turning the wing nut compresses the plug body so it expands outward against the inside of the fitting. Snug it by hand until it holds.
Can I reuse it next season?
Yes, plugs are normally reused for several closings. Replace one when the rubber has gone hard or cracked, or when the wing nut no longer draws down.
