Quick overview

  • 100 square feet The full rated media area, so the filter runs the cycle length it was designed for.
  • Built for the Hayward® CC1000 Unicel lists C-8311 as the replacement element for the Hayward® CC1000.
  • Measured to fit 17-3/8 inches long by 8-15/16 inches outside diameter, with 4 inch inner diameter end caps top and bottom.
  • 194 pleats Pleat count is what turns a fixed footprint into usable surface area.
  • Molded gasket end caps Both end caps are the open style with a molded gasket, so the element seals as it seats.
  • Replace, do not keep cleaning Cartridges lose flow permanently as fibers pack, and a cleaned old element never returns to new pressure.

Product details

The Unicel C-8311 is a 100 square foot replacement filter cartridge for the Hayward® CC1000. It measures 17-3/8 inches long by 8-15/16 inches in outside diameter, with open end caps top and bottom, each with a 4 inch inner diameter and a molded gasket.

Why the numbers matter

A cartridge is defined by its dimensions and its media area. Length and diameter decide whether the element seats in the tank, the end cap style and inner diameter decide whether it seals, and the square footage decides how long you go between cleanings. This element carries 194 pleats to reach its 100 square feet, which is what keeps flow up and pressure rise slow.

Cleaning versus replacing

Rinse the element when pressure has climbed roughly 8 to 10 psi over its clean starting point. Over several seasons the fibers pack and the pleats lose their spring, and at that point washing it stops helping. When a freshly cleaned cartridge still starts the cycle high, the element is done.

A note on fit

Measure the old element before ordering. Cartridges of similar diameter come in several lengths and end cap styles, and a wrong end cap will let water bypass the media entirely.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What size filter does this fit?
It is the 100 square foot element for the Hayward® CC1000, measuring 17-3/8 inches long by 8-15/16 inches in diameter.
Are both ends open?
Yes. Top and bottom are both open end caps with a molded gasket, each with a 4 inch inner diameter.
How often should a cartridge be replaced?
Clean it whenever pressure climbs about 8 to 10 psi over the clean starting pressure, and replace the element once cleaning no longer brings the pressure back down.
Is this a genuine Hayward® cartridge?
No. It is a Unicel element made as a replacement for the Hayward® filter, which is the standard aftermarket route for cartridge elements.
