The Pentair 178654Z is the genuine replacement cartridge for the Quad DE 60 pool and spa filter. Each element is 15 square feet and measures 6-1/4 in. in diameter by 20-3/4 in. long.
How the Quad DE works
Rather than fabric grids, the Quad filter uses cartridges coated in DE. Four of these elements fill the tank, and together they give the filter its 60 square feet of area. The top and bottom end caps are open with molded gaskets and a 3 in. inside diameter, which is what seats and seals each cartridge in the tank.
What is inside
The element is built with 8 ounce DE filter media in 42 straight, evenly spaced pleats, over a reinforced PVC center core drilled with evenly spaced holes so water distributes across the whole length. Polyurethane end caps hold it all square and take the clamping load.
Change the set together. Four cartridges share the work, so leaving one worn element in the tank puts the pressure back up and shortens the run you just paid for.
