The Pentair IntelliFlo VS+SVRS is a variable speed inground pool pump with a Safety Vacuum Release System built in. It combines variable drive technology, onboard digital intelligence and a permanent magnet motor, the motor technology used in hybrid cars, to cut pump energy use by up to 90% compared with a single speed pump.

The safety system

SVRS monitors for a drain blockage and shuts the pump off automatically when it detects one. It works alongside compliant drain covers as an entrapment safeguard, and this model was the first pool pump to build it in.

Variable speed, controlled at the pump

Filtration runs slowly and quietly for most of the day, with higher speeds reserved for cleaning and backwashing. Schedules and speeds are programmed on the pump's own digital control, so no external controller is required, and it can also run under Pentair automation.

Pentair's savings figure is based on a variable speed pump compared with a single speed pump running 12 hours per day at an average of $0.16 per kWh in a 20,000 gallon pool. Actual savings vary with pump horsepower, RPM, plumbing size and length, pump model, service factor and other hydraulic factors.

What does the SVRS actually do?
The Safety Vacuum Release System watches for a drain blockage. If it detects one it shuts the pump off automatically, which is an entrapment safeguard in addition to compliant drain covers.
Do I need a separate controller?
