Product details

The Waterway PD-270 Power Defender is a 2.7 HP variable speed in-ground pool pump that runs on 230V. Speeds are programmed at the pump, so it can idle through a long filtration cycle and step up only when a cleaner, a spa or a water feature calls for real flow.

How it is built

The motor is totally enclosed and cooled by an external fan, which keeps dirt and moisture out while holding running temperature down. The shaft seal uses silicon carbide with Viton for wear and chemical resistance, and the pump is pressure rated up to 50 PSI. Built in freeze protection watches for cold weather, and the display stays readable in bright sun or at night.

On the pad

It arrives with a base for IntelliFlo and two self-aligning pump unions, so it can take the place of an existing pump without rebuilding the plumbing around it. The controls can be mounted off board if the pad layout calls for it.

Running other equipment

The Power Defender can install and program an additional load, so a booster pump or a chlorine generator can be tied to the pump schedule instead of a separate timer. The pump is D.O.E. and C.E.C. compliant.
