The Waterway 600-9600 is the key cover assembly for Waterway top mount sand filter valves: the lid together with its diverter and the spider gasket. It is listed for some Clearwater and Carefree sand filters and for the 1-1/2 inch 7 function top mount valve.
What goes wrong
The spider gasket is the rubber star that seals one valve port from the next. It is the part of a multiport valve that wears first. Once it hardens or tears, water crosses between ports, and the classic symptom is a trickle out of the waste line while the handle is set to filter.
Why the assembly
The gasket only seals if the face it presses against is flat and clean. On a valve that has been in service for years, that face is often the real problem. Replacing the lid, diverter and gasket as one assembly removes the guesswork and puts a fresh sealing surface back in the valve.
