Product details
The Waterway 400-4030 is a 1-1/2" union for pool equipment plumbing: a 1-1/2" male pipe thread on one side and a 1-1/2" female slip socket on the other.
Why unions belong at the equipment
Anything you will one day take off the pad should be plumbed with unions. Put one on each side of the pump and the filter and every future service call is a matter of loosening two nuts by hand. Without them, pulling a pump means cutting pipe, buying couplings, and waiting on glue before the system can run again.
Installing it
The threaded end screws into the port on the pump or filter. Use silicone or teflon tape on that thread and take it up snug rather than hard, since plastic threads split when they are overtightened. The slip side solvent welds onto 1-1/2" PVC pipe. The union nut seals on its own face, so it does not need tape.
