Where it goes
Pool equipment is threaded and pool pipe is glued, so almost every pump, filter, heater and valve connection passes through an adapter like this one. 1-1/2 inch is the size most residential systems are plumbed in.
Making the joint
The slip end takes primer and solvent cement to 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe. The threaded end takes PTFE tape or a PVC rated paste. Snug it and stop. Torque is what cracks the female fitting on the other side, not what makes the joint seal.
