The Hayward SP1022CBLK is a 1-1/2 inch black plug supplied with its O-ring. It is the genuine Hayward part, used as an all purpose drain plug across pool equipment.
Where it goes
Threaded drain ports show up on pump housings, filter tanks and other equipment bodies wherever water has to be let out. This plug closes one of those ports, sealing on the O-ring rather than on the threads. Hayward lists it for concrete pool installations.
Freeze protection
The plug earns its keep at the end of the season. Water trapped in a housing expands as it freezes, and that expansion is what splits pump volutes and filter tanks. Pulling the drain plug lets the water out before it can do damage. Keeping a spare on hand matters, because these are small, they get set down on the deck, and they disappear.
Fit it hand tight with the O-ring in place. The seal comes from the O-ring, so forcing the plug in harder does not make it tighter, it just stresses the port.
