Product details

The Hayward SPX1091Z4 is a straight hose adapter with a 1-1/2 inch male pipe thread on one end and a 1-1/2 inch smooth hose barb on the other. Hayward lists it for ProSeries sand filter models and for the Dyna-Skim automatic skimmer.

What it is for

Above ground equipment is plumbed in flexible hose, and the ports on filters and skimmers are threaded. This adapter is the piece in between: it screws into the threaded port and gives the hose a barb to clamp onto.

Installing it

Wrap the pipe thread with PTFE tape, thread it in by hand and give it about one more turn with a wrench. Threaded plastic ports crack when a fitting is driven in hard, and that turns a small repair into a new filter head. On the hose end, push the hose fully over the barb and set the clamp behind the last ridge.
