Quick overview

  • Plug and o-ring together The 400-6650 ships with the sealing o-ring, so the seal is not a separate hunt.
  • Two inch male thread Threads into a 2 inch female port. The source lists the thread as MPT in the title and NPT in the description.
  • White finish Supplied in white.
  • Waterway part Sold under Waterway part number 400-6650.
  • For closing a port Blanks off an unused or drained 2 inch connection on filter, pump and plumbing bodies.
  • Snug, not forced The o-ring makes the seal, so hand tight is enough and overtightening is what cracks plastic threads.

Product details

The Waterway 400-6650 is a two inch male threaded plug supplied with its o-ring, in white. It closes off a 2 inch port on filter, pump and plumbing bodies.

The o-ring does the work

Threads locate the plug, but the o-ring is what stops the water. A ring that has gone hard or picked up a nick will weep no matter how far the plug is turned, which is what leads people to keep tightening until something cracks. A plug with a fresh o-ring seals with far less force.

A note on the thread

The manufacturer information describes this plug as MPT in one place and NPT in another. Both readings point to the same two inch male thread, but if your application depends on the exact designation, check the port before you order.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Does the o-ring come with the plug?
Yes. The 400-6650 is sold as the plug with its o-ring.
Is the thread MPT or NPT?
The source information is not consistent: the product title calls it MPT and the description calls it NPT. Both describe a two inch male thread, but measure your port before ordering if the distinction matters to your fitting.
What color is it?
White.
How tight should it be?
Hand tight against the o-ring. The ring seals it, and forcing the plug with a wrench is the usual way a plastic port gets split.
