The Lasco 450-015 is a 1-1/2 inch MIPT plug. MIPT stands for male iron pipe thread, which means the threads run around the outside of the plug and it screws into a female threaded port.
Where it is used
Anywhere a threaded 1-1/2 inch opening needs to be closed off: a drain port on a filter or a manifold, or a tee left open when the plumbing was run. Sealed properly, the plug lets that leg of the system hold pressure like any other fitting.
Fitting it
Plugs are the most commonly cross threaded fitting on a pool pad. Start the threads by hand, keep the plug square to the port, and stop as soon as it is snug. Overtightening a plastic plug is what splits the female port it sits in.
