Product details

The Waterway 400-6601 is a universal 1-1/2 inch drain plug supplied with its o-ring. It replaces the plug that seals a drain port on pump and filter bodies once the original is stripped, cracked or simply lost.

Why the o-ring matters

The threads hold the plug in place, but the o-ring is what actually seals it. Once that ring has flattened, hardened or picked up a nick, the port weeps no matter how hard the plug is turned, and the usual response is to crank it tighter until the plastic gives. Fitting a plug with a fresh o-ring solves the leak without any of that.

Fitting

Check that your drain port is the 1-1/2 inch size before ordering, then thread the plug in and snug it by hand against the o-ring. A light film of silicone lubricant on the o-ring helps it seat and makes it easier to remove at the next closing.
