This is the CMP 21023-000-000 pump union, a 2 inch slip half supplied with its nut, sleeve and o-ring. It is made to attach to the Powerclean tab inline pool sanitizer.
Why a union goes here
A feeder that is hard plumbed has to be cut out when it needs service or replacement. A union in the same position means the joint breaks by hand, the unit lifts away, and the plumbing goes back together without a saw and a run of new pipe. Because the joint is opened and closed repeatedly, the o-ring and the sealing faces are what keep it dry.
Fitting
