Product details

This is the Lasco 448-020, a 2 inch PVC cap with a female threaded connection.

It threads onto a 2 inch male threaded pipe end or fitting to close the line. Because it is threaded rather than solvent welded, the cap comes back off when you need the port again, which makes it the sensible choice for a run you are taking out of service temporarily or a spare port you may plumb to later.

Use PTFE tape or a PVC rated thread sealant on the male threads, and tighten by hand plus a little. Threaded PVC does not need force, and overtightening is the usual way these fittings crack.

What does FIPT mean here?
The cap is female threaded, so it screws down onto a 2 inch male threaded pipe end or fitting.
Can I glue this on?
No. It is a threaded cap, not a slip cap. It threads on, which also means you can take it back off later.
Do I need thread sealant?
Yes. Use PTFE tape or a PVC rated thread sealant, then tighten by hand plus a small amount. Threaded PVC splits if you crank on it.
What is it used for?
Capping off a line that is out of service, or blanking a threaded port you are not plumbing to.
