Product details
The Lasco 409020SW is a 2 inch schedule 40 PVC 90 degree street sweep elbow, spigot on one end and slip socket on the other. It is a standard pool and spa plumbing fitting.
Sweep versus standard
A standard 90 turns the flow at a tight corner and the water pays for it in friction. A sweep elbow uses a long radius so the direction change is gradual. On a pump suction line, a return manifold or an equipment pad with several turns in a row, that difference adds up to real head loss and real energy cost over a season.
The street end
Because one end is a spigot, this elbow plugs straight into the socket of another fitting or a valve. On a crowded pad that saves a short pipe nipple and one glued joint, which is often the difference between a layout that fits and one that does not.
Installing it
Dry fit first and mark your alignment, because a 90 that ends up pointing five degrees off is hard to correct once the cement grabs. Prime both mating surfaces, apply cement, push the joint home with a quarter turn and hold it for a few seconds against push out.
