Hayward SPX0714D is the replacement diffuser for the SP0714T Vari-Flo XL top mount multiport valve. It is the genuine Hayward part.
What it does
Water arriving at the valve comes in fast and concentrated. The diffuser takes that stream and spreads it out before it reaches the filter below. Without an intact diffuser the flow drives at one part of the bed, which channels the sand and lets dirty water find a path straight through instead of being filtered.
Ordering
The diffuser is sold on its own. The key seal diverter assembly, the valve body with gasket and sightglass, and the handle assembly are all separate Hayward part numbers, so a full valve rebuild takes more than this one piece. Since the diffuser is visible the moment the valve is opened, it is worth checking whenever the top comes off for other work.
