The Hayward SPX0704HA is the o-ring and Teflon shaft seal set for the Vari-Flo filter valve. It is the genuine Hayward part, sold as the two sealing pieces together.
What it fits
It is used in the Hayward 1-1/2 in Vari-Flo four position top mount valve, SP0704, and in the Hayward SP0740 DE 2 in Selecta-Flo valve. Both use the same seal at the valve shaft.
The symptom
Water seeping or dripping out around the valve handle stem is almost always these seals rather than a cracked valve body. They are rubber, they take heat and chlorine year after year, and eventually they harden and stop sealing on the shaft.
Fitting
Use a pool rated o-ring lubricant when you reassemble. Petroleum based grease breaks rubber seals down and will have you back in the same place before long.
