The Hayward SPX0710XZ7 is the handle pin for Hayward multiport filter valves. It is the genuine Hayward part.

The part that stops the handle spinning

On a multiport valve the handle lifts against a spring, turns to the position you want, and drops into a detent. All of that only works if the handle is actually locked to the stem below it, and the pin is what locks it. When the pin shears or falls out, the handle still moves but the diverter underneath stays put, or worse, ends up parked between two ports. A valve between positions is not a cosmetic problem: it can push filtered water down the waste line or feed the pool through the backwash port.

Fitment

Hayward uses this pin widely. It is listed across the Vari-Flo top mount 1-1/2 inch valves in the SP0710X, SP0711 and SP0712 families, the 2 inch side mount SP0715 and SP0716, the SP0704 four position top mount, and the SP0740DE 2 inch DE multiport. Because it is a small item that is easy to drop while the handle assembly is apart, it is worth ordering a spare alongside a handle, spring or washer replacement.

What does this pin do?
It secures the handle to the valve stem on a Hayward multiport valve. Without it the handle turns without moving the diverter underneath.
