Product details

Hayward SPX0710Z1A is the cover screw with nut for Hayward multiport valves, supplied as a set of six. It is the genuine Hayward fastener.

Why they matter

The cover screws are what hold the valve cover down against its gasket. They live outdoors in wet, chlorinated conditions, so they corrode, seize and eventually strip. Once one or two will no longer pull up, the cover stops clamping evenly and the valve weeps from the top, which is often mistaken for a failed valve body.

Fitment

Hayward lists this set for the Vari-Flo top mount 1-1/2 inch valves in the SP0710X, SP0711 and SP0712 series, the 2 inch side mount SP0715 and SP0716, and the SP0740 DE Selecta-Flo valve.

While you are in there

If the screws have been leaking for a while, look at the cover gasket before closing the valve back up. New fasteners on a flattened gasket will not stop the drip.

My valve cover is leaking. Will new screws fix it?
If the screws are corroded, stretched or stripped they cannot clamp the cover evenly and the valve will weep. Replace the set, and check the cover gasket at the same time.
