Hayward Cover O-Ring for Vari-Flo

The Hayward SPX0715Z1 is the cover o-ring for the 2 in. Vari-Flo multiport valve. It seals the joint between the valve cover and the valve body, which is the first place a tired valve starts to weep. When you see water tracking down the side of the valve with the pump running, this ring is the usual cause.

Fitment

It fits the SP715 and SP716 side mount Vari-Flo valves and the SP740DE 2 in. Selecta-Flo multiport used on Hayward DE filters. The ring measures 6 3/4 in. across the outside, so a quick check against the old one confirms the match.

Replacing it

Shut the pump off, relieve pressure, remove the cover screws and lift the cover. Pull the old ring, clean the groove, lubricate the new ring lightly with a pool o-ring lubricant and seat it before tightening the cover back down evenly. It is a ten minute job and it is worth doing at the same time as a valve seat gasket if the valve is being opened anyway.
