Product details

The Hayward® SPX0710MA is the threaded sight glass for Vari-Flo multiport valves, supplied with its O-ring. It is the genuine Hayward® replacement.

Plastic is correct

The original sight glass on these valves was made of glass. Hayward® makes the current part in plastic, so if you pull a glass one out and a plastic one arrives, nothing has gone wrong. Plastic is what the factory ships now.

Where it goes

It threads directly into the valve body, and the included O-ring makes the seal. It covers the Vari-Flo 1-1/2" top mount valves SP0710X, SP711, SP711-13, SP711-20 and SP712, the 2" side mount SP715 and SP716, and the 2" DE multiport SP0740DE.

Why it matters

A clouded or cracked sight glass takes away the one easy read you have on a backwash. With a clear one in place you can see the dirty water run and stop the cycle as soon as it clears, instead of guessing and wasting water.

Is this glass or plastic?
Plastic. Hayward® changed this sight glass from glass to plastic, so the plastic part you receive is the current factory replacement.
Does the O-ring come with it?
Yes. SPX0710MA is sold with its O-ring, so you get both pieces in one order.
Which valves does it fit?
Hayward® Vari-Flo 1-1/2" top mount valves SP0710X, SP711, SP711-13, SP711-20 and SP712, the 2" side mount SP715 and SP716, and the 2" DE multiport SP0740DE.
What does the sight glass actually do?
It gives you a window into the water leaving the valve during a backwash. When the water running past it turns clear, the backwash is finished.
