The Hayward MaxFlo VS 420 is a variable speed pool pump with Omnix smart control built into the pump. It carries part number W3VSP23420 and is also listed as VSP23420.

Why variable speed

Filtration does not need the same speed as a cleaner or a spa jet, and a single speed pump gives it anyway. A variable speed pump runs slower for the long hours and faster only when something demands it, which is where the running cost drops.

What Omnix adds

The control is part of the pump, so scheduling arrives with it and does not wait on a separate automation panel. Omni control also reaches other pool and spa equipment, including heaters, lighting, sanitization and water features, so the pump can become the starting point for automating the rest of the pad.

Hayward aimed the VS Omni line at existing pools and spas, which makes this a sensible drop in when an older MaxFlo finally gives up.
