The CaliMar CaliFlow CMARCFVSP2010 is the 1 HP model in CaliMar's CMARCF series of variable speed pumps, which runs up to 3 HP. It takes 230V single phase at 50 or 60 Hz, turns from 450 to 3,450 RPM, and has 2 in. ports in and out. Its controls differ from CaliMar's CMARVSP pumps.

Motor and pump

CaliMar fits a TEFC (totally enclosed, fan cooled) motor, which its manual describes as quiet. The strainer housing has a clear lid held by a nut that turns off by hand. The pump is 22.66 in. long; on its base it stands 13.18 in. high and 9.51 in. wide, and the base comes off, taking it to 11.81 in. high and 8.5 in. wide. A union connector kit, 100EPE-UCK, appears in CaliMar's parts list.

Controls

The keypad runs the pump in manual or schedule mode. The schedule holds four speeds with start times and durations, and as shipped begins with 3,000 RPM at 8 am for 2 hours. Quick Clean runs a set speed for 1 minute to 1 hour. A priming program, off as shipped, can run 1 to 15 minutes at 2,000 to 3,450 RPM, and freeze protection, also off, takes a set point of 40 to 50 F and a speed of 750 to 3,450 RPM. The manual also shows wiring for an automation panel, RS485 or relays that pick speeds 1 to 3, which it marks for its external control models.

Before you buy

At 3,450 RPM, CaliMar's curve gives about 65 GPM against 50 feet of head. It draws 5.5 A at 230V and is connected permanently, on a GFCI protected circuit, by a licensed electrician or qualified pool technician. CaliMar wants it at least 6 feet from the pool wall, with its suction inlet no more than 5 feet above the water. The warranty is one year on materials and workmanship in residential use for the original buyer; commercial use voids it and labor is not covered.

Can the CaliMar CaliFlow be wired to a pool automation system?
CaliMar's CaliFlow manual has wiring for it: a cable from the pump's control connector carries RS485 and four relay inputs, where closing IN1, IN2 or IN3 runs speed 1, 2 or 3 and IN4 runs the four speed schedule set on the pump. The manual marks that wiring for its external control models only, so check the pump has the control connector before planning on it.
Does the CaliMar CaliFlow have freeze protection?
Yes, though it is off as shipped. In the system settings, with the pump stopped, it can be switched on with a set point between 40 and 50 F (4.4 to 10 C) and a speed between 750 and 3,450 RPM; 40 F and 1,000 RPM are the defaults. CaliMar's warranty excludes damage from freezing either way.
Can you remove the base on a CaliMar CMARCFVSP2010?
Yes. CaliMar's drawing shows the base coming off. On the base the pump stands 13.18 inches high and 9.51 inches wide, with the suction port centered 9.13 inches up; without it, 11.81 inches high, 8.5 inches wide and the port at 7.75 inches. It is 22.66 inches long either way. The base, 100EPE-BP, has its own screw kit, 100EPE-MBSK.
How high above the water can a CaliMar CaliFlow pump sit?
No more than 5 feet, measured to the suction inlet, by CaliMar's CaliFlow manual, and as close to the water as the site allows. Use suction pipe no smaller than the pump connection and at least the size of the discharge pipe. For priming, the pump has a program, off as shipped, that runs 1 to 15 minutes at 2,000 to 3,450 RPM.
