Why variable speed
The power a pump draws climbs far faster than the flow it produces. That relationship is what makes a variable speed pump cheaper to run: instead of one fixed high speed for a short window, it turns slowly for longer and moves the same volume of water using a fraction of the electricity. Filtering, heating, cleaning and spa jets all want different flow rates, and the programming lets you set and store a speed for each rather than compromising on one.
Built to last on a pad
The motor is totally enclosed and fan-cooled. A TEFC motor keeps out the dust, damp and insects that get into an open drip proof motor and end up shorting a winding, which is the usual way a pool motor dies before its bearings do.
Replacing a WhisperFlo
This pump is designed as a drop-in for an existing Pentair WhisperFlo, so an older single speed WhisperFlo can be upgraded without replumbing the pad. Pentair positions the WhisperFlo VST above the SuperFlo VST for output, so it suits larger pools and longer plumbing runs where the smaller pump would be working at the top of its range.
