Product details

The Pentair 355227Z is the diffuser o-ring for WhisperFlo pumps in the WF and WFE range. It seals the diffuser against the volute so that water leaving the impeller has only one way to go.

Why a small o-ring matters

When this o-ring flattens, hardens or splits, water short circuits back around the diffuser rather than passing through it. The pump keeps running, the motor sounds exactly as it always has, and the only symptom is less water at the returns. That is easy to blame on a dirty filter, a clogged basket, or a tired impeller, which is why a worn diffuser o-ring can go unfound for a season.

Fitting

Wipe the groove clean of grit before seating the new ring, and use a thin film of an o-ring lubricant intended for pool equipment. That helps it seat evenly and keeps it from tearing or sticking the next time the pump is opened.

Since reaching the diffuser means opening the pump anyway, it is worth ordering the seal kit or a spare seal plate gasket at the same time.
