The Pentair 071422 is the cover o-ring for older Purex Triton and WhisperFlo pumps, the ones manufactured prior to 11/1998. It measures 5-3/4 inches across the inside.
What it does
The cover o-ring is the only thing sealing the strainer pot lid against atmosphere. When the pump runs it pulls a vacuum in that pot, so a ring that has gone hard, flat or cracked lets air straight in. The usual symptoms are a basket that will not fill, a pump that loses prime after it shuts off, or foam and bubbles at the returns.
Before you order
Pentair changed the pump lid over the years, so measure the ring you are replacing. This one is the 5-3/4 inch inside diameter size for the pre 11/1998 bodies. Fit it clean and dry, then add a thin film of silicone o-ring lubricant intended for pool equipment. Petroleum grease will swell the rubber and shorten its life.
