Product details

The Pentair 071660Z is a 4-40 set screw, 1-1/8 inch long, used across the Purex WhisperFlo and IntelliFlo pump families. It is sold individually and two are required per pump.

Why the exact part matters

A 4-40 thread at 1-1/8 inch is an odd combination. Too short and the screw does not engage far enough to hold under vibration; too long and it bottoms before it clamps. Neither failure shows itself immediately, which is how a substituted screw ends up backing out weeks later on a pump that runs every day.

Where it is used

Pentair lists 071660Z in the parts breakdowns for the WhisperFlo, including the WF and WFE models, the WhisperFlo VS and VST, and the IntelliFlo Variable, VF and VS+SVRS. It also appears in the Sta-Rite IntelliPro VS+SVRS variable speed breakdown.

Ordering

Because the price of one screw is trivial next to the trip back to the equipment pad, order both at once if the pump is due for service and buy a spare while you are at it.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How many do I need?
Two per pump. The listing is sold individually, so order a pair for a complete set.
What size is it?
4-40 thread, 1-1/8 inch long. The product title gives it as 1-1/8 inch; note that the source metadata prints it once as 1/18 inch, which is a typographical slip for the same screw.
Which pumps use it?
Pentair Purex WhisperFlo including the WF and WFE, WhisperFlo VS and VST, IntelliFlo Variable, VF and VS+SVRS, and the Sta-Rite IntelliPro VS+SVRS.
Can I use a hardware store screw instead?
A 4-40 at 1-1/8 inch is an uncommon length, and the wrong length either bottoms out or fails to engage. The factory part is specified for the thread it goes into.
