The Pentair 410016Z is the 2-1/2 inch diamond seal kit for WhisperFloXF and IntelliFloXF variable speed pumps. It is the genuine Pentair shaft seal, the same one fitted at the factory.
The leak this fixes
The shaft seal is what keeps pool water on the wet end side of the pump and off the motor. When it wears, water starts weeping from between the motor and the seal plate while the pump runs, and the drip usually shows up as a puddle under the middle of the pump rather than at a union. Left alone, that water gets into the motor bearings and turns a seal job into a motor job.
Size matters here
This is the 2-1/2 inch XF seal. It is not interchangeable with the seal used on a standard WhisperFlo, so confirm your pump is an XF model before ordering. While the wet end is open, the seal plate and diffuser o-rings are worth replacing at the same time, since both are already exposed and both are cheap next to a second teardown.
