Pentair WhisperFlo VS 2.6 THP Variable Speed Pool Pump, 115/208-230V, EC-011533

The Pentair WhisperFlo VS is the variable speed version of the WhisperFlo, the pump that has been on inground pads for decades. Model EC-011533 carries a 2.6 total horsepower permanent magnet motor, wires to 115V or 208-230V, and is a drop-in for an existing WhisperFlo, so a single speed pump can come out and this one can go in on the same unions.

Why variable speed

The motor runs anywhere from 600 to 3450 RPM. Daily circulation and filtration can happen at low speed, where a pump draws a small fraction of its full-speed power, with higher speeds reserved for vacuuming, backwashing, heating or driving water features. The permanent magnet motor is up to 90% more efficient than a conventional induction motor, and the pump is Energy Star certified, which is the usual condition for utility rebates.

Built for the pad

The motor is totally enclosed and fan cooled (TEFC), which keeps rain, insects and debris out of the windings. The housing is corrosion resistant thermoplastic, and the large strainer basket holds more debris between cleanings. Running at lower speeds also makes the pump much quieter than a single speed unit, a point in its favor near a bedroom window or a neighbor.

Sizing

At 2.6 THP this pump sits above the SuperFlo VST. It is the right choice for larger pools, pool and spa combinations, and pads with long plumbing runs or in-floor cleaning systems. It works with most automation systems, or can be programmed from its own control panel.
